“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”
George Orwell(1945)
The animals overthrow the farmer and establish their own government; the pigs gradually take over, and by the end you cannot tell pigs from men. Orwell wrote this fable in 1943-1944, aiming at Stalinism, but publishers refused it during the wartime alliance with the Soviet Union. When it finally appeared in 1945, it became an instant classic. The simplicity is devastating; the final line unforgettable. Orwell proved that propaganda can be answered with allegory, that clarity is a form of resistance.
