- 1933Christopher Morley proposed in the Saturday Review of Literature that Sherlock Holmes was born on this day, the twelfth night after Christmas, in 1854. The evidence was that Holmes quotes Twelfth Night twice, and no man knows a play that well unless it names his own birthday.
