- 1400Geoffrey Chaucer died in London with The Canterbury Tales unfinished, a pilgrimage whose storytellers had not yet reached Canterbury. He was buried in Westminster Abbey, and the poets who followed laid their own tombs around his, which is how Poets' Corner began.
