These Terms of Use govern your use of The Daily Canon app and website. By using The Daily Canon, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
The service
The Daily Canon, operated by Hal Wall Studios, is a literary reading app that presents a curated work of literature each day, alongside commentary, context, and reading tools. Some features are available to all users; others require a paid subscription.
Accounts
You may create an account using Sign in with Apple, Google, or a magic link. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account. You may delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings > Advanced > Delete Account.
Subscriptions
The Daily Canon offers auto-renewable subscriptions (monthly and yearly) that unlock Folio, our premium tier, including Bloomy, your literary companion.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
- Your subscription automatically renews unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
- Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period, at the same price.
- You can manage and cancel your subscriptions by going to your App Store account settings after purchase.
- Any unused portion of a free trial period, if offered, will be forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
- Refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with App Store policy.
Content and intellectual property
The literary texts presented in The Daily Canon are in the public domain. Original commentary, design, illustrations, and app features are the intellectual property of The Daily Canon and may not be reproduced without permission.
Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the service, including but not limited to: attempting to access other users' data, interfering with the operation of the app, or using automated systems to scrape content.
Bloomy (AI features)
Bloomy is an AI-powered literary companion provided by Anthropic's Claude. When you use Bloomy, your reading activity and conversation history are sent to Anthropic to generate responses. Our other AI features, Summarise My Reading and Reading Plans, likewise send your reading activity to Anthropic. Content generated by these features is produced by artificial intelligence and may not always be accurate. It is provided for entertainment and literary discussion and should not be relied upon as a sole source of factual information.
Privacy
Your use of The Daily Canon is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your information.
Limitation of liability
The Daily Canon is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
