The great-grandfather was a President of Peru, and his gilded carriage still stands in the family palace in Lima, where the youngest son, Julius, plays cowboys inside it. Julius has everything, and what he wants is the servants' quarters: Vilma, the nanny he adores; Nilda, the fierce cook from the jungle; Arminda, who irons the shirts and goes home to a part of the city he has never seen.

Julius was born in a palace on the Avenida Salaverry, across from the old San Felipe racetrack
