Six hundred British cavalrymen ride down a valley into Russian guns on three sides because an order came through garbled, and the poem beats out the gallop, the cutting at the guns and the ride back of the few, then asks that they be honoured.

Their's not to reason why, / Their's but to do and die, / Into the valley of Death / Rode the six hundred.
