Read in the app, yours for good. Not yet by post.

The book unlocks on your account as soon as you buy it, so the 14-day right to cancel ends once it is unlocked.

I will bet twenty thousand pounds against anyone who wishes that I will make the tour of the world in eighty days or less.

What buying means

  • Yours for good, on every iPhone you sign in to.
  • Read in the app’s own reader, with the original beside the translation where there is one.
  • Downloaded, so it reads with no signal.
  • The same price as in the app. Folio already opens every book on this shelf; buying keeps this one after Folio ends. A refund takes it back.

About the book

A reclusive English gentleman wagers twenty thousand pounds at his Reform Club that he can circle the globe in eighty days, and that same evening departs Charing Cross with his new French valet and a carpetbag of banknotes. Jules Verne serialized this novel through 1872 in Le Temps, riding the wave of new steamships, the Suez Canal, and the freshly completed transcontinental railroad. Phileas Fogg moves through Bombay, Calcutta, Hong Kong, Yokohama, San Francisco like a metronome, calm amid elephants and typhoons, pursued by a detective who mistakes him for a bank robber. Passepartout supplies the human weather his master refuses. The book makes a religion of the timetable, then quietly reveals that the timetable was never the point.
