Charles Pooter, clerk, householder, and husband, begins a diary on moving day at The Laurels, Brickfield Terrace, Holloway. Over the following months he suffers the scraper, the tradesmen, the enamel paint, his friend Gowing's inexplicable conduct, his son Lupin's inexplicable opinions, and the Blanc-Mange. Each entry is brief, cheerful, and quietly catastrophic. First published in Punch in 1888, it has never been out of print. Read one chapter a day, in order.
