Bram Stoker's Dracula is not told in the usual way. It arrives as a dossier: a solicitor's travel journal, a young woman's letters, a doctor's phonograph diary, a ship's log written by a dead hand. The monster is never the narrator. The novel assembles its case document by document, and the reader knows more than any single character does. Twenty-seven chapters, one a day, from the Carpathians to the end.
