Pablo Neruda wrote these twenty poems and one song in a Santiago boarding house at nineteen, working toward two women he would never name. He gave Latin America the love poem it had been waiting for. Twenty-one days, one poem each, from the first fire of desire to the hour of departure when everything has been lost and the poet still cannot stop writing.
