Homer's Odyssey is twenty-four Books, three thousand years old, and still the template for every story about trying to get home. Odysseus left Troy with twelve ships and a crew. He arrives in Ithaca alone, in disguise, to find his house full of men eating his food and courting his wife. The poem tells both stories at once: the journey that kept him away, and the son who grew up without him. Twenty-four Books, one a day.
