A country minister breaks off from the hay to set his labourers right on their work and their Latin in the same breath, and that is the house Paul walks into: a farm where Virgil is quoted over the milk pans, and the daughter of the house, seventeen and taller than the men, still goes about in a child's pinafore. Paul brings his friend Holdsworth, a railway engineer with easy manners and news of a wider world, and soon Phillis is being taught Italian.

It is a great thing for a lad when he is first turned into the independence of lodgings.

The blurb, the gist, the why of the day and the work itself are in the app. The first button needs it on this device; the second gets it there.
