In the al-Aqsa mosque, a Templar knight clears a space so a Syrian visitor can pray facing Mecca, and when a newly arrived Frank shoves the man round to the east, the Templars apologise and throw the newcomer out. Usama ibn Munqidh set that scene down as an old man of nearly ninety, at Saladin's court, after eight decades of hunting lions, fighting Franks, drinking with them, and burying almost everyone he loved.
