The book opens in darkness, before matter: the Self-existent one appears, casts a seed into the waters, and is born from a golden egg that becomes the world. Then , having built the universe, it turns to what you may eat, whom you may marry, how you must rinse your mouth, and what your next life will cost.
Where women are honoured, there the gods are pleased; but where they are not honoured, no sacred rite yields rewards.
