A king despairs of three sons who cannot be taught, and an old teacher wagers he can make them fit to rule in six months with nothing but animal stories. That wager is the door into a book that keeps opening doors: a jackal's tale holds a crow's, which holds a mouse's, the frames stacking until you lose track of who's mouth you are inside and stop minding.

I come to you a guest, brought by the evening sun.
