A magistrate in a scarlet cloak and a black three-cornered hat climbs out of a millrace at midnight, soaked through, and hangs his clothes by the fire to dry. That hat is the whole trouble: a bit of felt that turns a vain, stooping old man into the law itself, and the law into a man who has decided he wants a miller's wife.

Happiest of days, those in which there was a variety of classes, of affections, and of customs in human society!

The blurb, the gist, the why of the day and the work itself are in the app. The first button needs it on this device; the second gets it there.
