What buying means

  • Yours for good, on every iPhone you sign in to.
  • Read in the app’s own reader, with the original beside the translation where there is one.
  • Downloaded, so it reads with no signal.
  • The same price as in the app. Folio already opens every book on this shelf; buying keeps this one after Folio ends. A refund takes it back.

About the book

Six dogs, six fish, and Bill comes up one short: that is how the North announces itself, by subtraction, while two men haul a coffin through country where the wolves take a dog a night. Out of that pack comes a she-wolf, and out of her a grey cub who meets the world as a white wall of light at the mouth of a cave and learns, painfully, that it is not solid. Jack London runs The Call of the Wild backwards here, out of the Wild and toward the fire, and the road in costs more than the road out. Traded for whisky to a man called Beauty Smith, White Fang is starved into a pit-fighter and set on other dogs for money, until a stranger buys him and simply declines to hit him. London thought a creature was only the clay its world pressed. Then he spends the last quarter of the book pressing back.
