A bundle of papers surfaced at auction in 1977 and quietly revised a national monument: love letters between Wordsworth and his wife Mary, written after ten years of marriage and a house full of children, ardent in a way posterity had never permitted him. They sit here among everything else a long life put on paper.

I shall, however, never be at peace till, as far as in me lies, I have done justice to my departed brother's memory.
