In Megara, two men have a slave read them a book, because the young man it records is at that hour being carried home from Corinth, wounded and sick, and will not live. Then the writing takes over and he is alive again, snub-nosed and homely as Socrates, dazzling at geometry, and Socrates is asking him what knowledge is.

wonder is the feeling of a philosopher, and philosophy begins in wonder.
